ISABEL LÖFGREN

The temple will be installed near the traffic lights across the street from OPI Lab.

A ritual takes place Thursday 30 May, 19:30-20:30

Meeting point: Tiny Park site

By publicly placing an obituary notice in the newspaper with an invitation to join her in commemoration, Isabel Löfgren presents an ode to the chimneys of Lövholmen.

Condemned to demolition, the chimney is read by Isabel as a symbolic reminder of what is kept and what is deemed unworthy of preservation.

An example of this is the selected industrial details from certain buildings which remain in Stockholm city’s public plan for the redevelopment of the area. Absorbed into new residential and commercial buildings, they gain a new signification.

This recurring fixation on the chimney as symbol is a conduit for a broader subjective reflection on what is considered valuable, and by/for whom. For the Tiny Park Festival, this is made visible as a sculptural object: simultaneously a viewing point for the chimney, and a nod to the traditions of roadside shrines and personal memorials in the form miniature-chapels.
