EXPERIMENTS THROUGH ART & ARCHITECTURE IN GRÖNDAL

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Tiny Park Festival is a constellation of nodes that present sketches, prototypes and alternative imaginaries developed by participants of OPI Lab, a multidisciplinary laboratory for art, architecture and public making situated in Gröndal.

From Thursday 30 May – Saturday 1 June, residents and visitors in Gröndal encounter a program of performative activations, installations and experimentation with and in the public.

Playing with the format of a festival, TPF interweaves the potentialities of art and architecture to produce a temporary manifestation of performance, sculptural works, sound and spatial interventions. Following a year based in Gröndal, the OPI Lab 2023/2024 cohort have developed works that propose and critically reflect on the past, present and future of the neighborhood.

The public program begins on Thursday 30 May, 17:00-20:00 with an Open Door Session – a monthly event at OPI Lab storefront at Gröndalsvägen 1 – where we offer food and drinks to neighbors, invited guests and passersby.

The “Tiny Park” refers to the small communal green area adjacent to OPI Lab’s storefront space. Here, the areas of Trekanten and Lövholmen meet, and the tramline and busy road of Gröndalsvägen connect Gröndal with Liljeholmen. Over three days, this area will be activated around a series of 10 wooden-framed structures, conceived of as enabling structures. The design of these frames is based on the retaining formwork for casting concrete walls in a construction process. Together, the 10 support structures form a festival site, a platform for gathering, for activations, for sharing food and communing in and with public(s) of Gröndal, Lövholmen and Liljeholmen.

Artistic and architectural works will be installed, activated and performed on the Tiny Park site and throughout the wider neighborhood. The eclectic program for 30 May – Saturday 1 June is a public offering of sketches and prototypes developed by OPI Lab participants during 2023/2024, and encompasses participatory sound and listening workshops, guided walks, performances, activations of sculptural installations, and more. Welcome!
